Summer Camp at Los Pellines

Summer camps for children and young people are enriching and meaningful experiences that offer outdoor learning and fun opportunities. These experiences focus on the development of relational skills and emotional management, providing concrete tools for accompanying vital stages of their development.

In these camps, we create a safe environment where participants can strengthen their ability to recognize and manage their emotions, learning to regulate them and to relate in a healthy way with others and themselves. Through activities and challenges, workshops, and dynamics of encounter and experiences in nature, we promote collaborative work, conflict resolution, and the development of relational skills.

What activities do we have at Los Pellines?

At Los Pellines, we offer activities that contribute to the improvement of relationships. These activities include working with horses and farm animals, relational challenges, and general experiences in nature. Contact with animals provides an enriching experience, promoting leadership skills and emotional connection. Relational challenges encourage collaborative work and effective communication, strengthening and building valuable bonds.

We go hiking in the forest and mountains, camping experiences in tents and also sleep directly under the stars. We go cycling, horseback riding, kayaking, among others.

Nature offers us endless options for adventure activities, physical, mental, and emotional challenges in an experience of emotional contact with natural spaces and others.

How do we communicate with our children during the experience?

Disconnect to connect. Participants will not have phone signal due to the area where we are located. This becomes an opportunity for the proper development of the experience as well as for your children to temporarily disconnect from technology, social networks, and screens.

That is why at Los Pellines, we have exclusive satellite Wifi for our work and to maintain communication with parents and communicate in case of emergencies. The use of satellite Wifi ensures a reliable and stable connection, allowing communication to be maintained even in areas where the phone signal is limited or nonexistent.

FACILITATORS

The team of guides in charge of the trip will be in constant company of the participants. Our guides are professionals and students from various disciplines such as education, ecotourism, and psychology, among others.

We are proud to highlight that our team undergoes a continuous training process, specializing in the design and execution of experiences in areas such as outdoor safety, educational workshops, leadership, group management, and technical content for outdoor education, group management tools, and emotional management.

To enhance safety, our guides are certified in first aid in wilderness areas, including certifications like WFR, WAFA, and First Response. We are committed to providing a safe, educational, and meaningful experience for all participants.

NUTRITION

At Los Pellines, our promise is to offer delicious and plentiful food. The menu we offer for the children is varied and prepared by our cooks. For breakfast, they can enjoy cereals, fruits, milk, homemade bread, cheese, ham, eggs, and ‘manjar’ (dulce de leche). For lunch, we have dishes such as rice with chicken and peas and mashed potatoes with meat. For dinner, we serve pizzas, tacos, noodles with meat sauce, among others. Main dishes are accompanied by salads and natural juices or water. The menu includes three daily meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Seasonal fruits are also offered as a snack. We have two types of menu: traditional and vegetarian. If your child has dietary restrictions or special diets, we can talk directly to clarify any doubts and coordinate.

At Los Pellines, we understand the importance of catering to special diets and dietary restrictions. We have a traditional menu based on white meat proteins, as well as a vegetarian menu. If your child has any dietary restrictions, we will be happy to share the menu to evaluate which foods they cannot consume. Additionally, if you wish, you can send specific foods to ensure that only those are provided to your child. It is crucial that you inform us of this information at least 10 days in advance so that we can make the corresponding requests to our kitchen team. Since Los Pellines does not have nearby places to buy food, we place our orders in advance. This way, we can ensure that the necessary measures are taken to adequately meet your child’s dietary needs.

At Los Pellines, we offer a varied and abundant diet for the children, so it is not necessary for them to bring additional food. We do not recommend sending sweets or snacks, as we cannot control their intake, and this can lead to stomach discomfort and even conflicts among peers. We want to ensure a healthy and balanced experience for all participants.

SAFETY AND MEDICATION

The First Response System at Los Pellines is crucial due to our remote location, far from urban areas and medical centers. We have two First Aid rooms, one in each center, equipped to provide immediate care in case of symptoms or accidents. Additionally, we have immobilization equipment and stretchers, strategically distributed for quick access when needed.

Our guides are certified in First Aid, such as the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Wilderness First Aid (WAFA), which are renewed every 2 to 3 years to maintain validity and stay up to date with the latest protocols. We also have Physical Education teachers who have received training and coaching in First Aid throughout their careers and apply it in their professional development.

To meet the standards required by International Schools, the presence of a WFR or WAFA certified guide is required for each program. Our team undergoes continuous training, being educated in various areas of our work, protocols, and procedures for First Response in remote areas.

Our procedures establish that parents be notified in case of medical situations or any other circumstance affecting the participants.

We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our participants, providing a quick and efficient response to any eventuality that may arise during their stay at Los Pellines.

If your child has suffered a fracture in one of their limbs, there will be some activities they cannot actively participate in. However, they can still join in another role alongside the Facilitators. It’s important that you inform us if they experience pain and provide us with all the specifications and doctor’s recommendations regarding treatment and if they authorize their participation in the trip.

Although there will be activities they cannot partake in, there will be many others they can participate in without any problem. We recommend that your child attends so they do not miss out on this great experience with their peers. We want to assure you that our Team of Facilitators will be aware of the necessary care and precautions to ensure your child’s well-being throughout the trip. However, it’s important that your child has a clear understanding of the individual dynamics they will participate in during the trip to avoid any discomfort.

We are committed to making this experience at Los Pellines meaningful and enriching for all participants and will do everything possible to adapt to your child’s individual needs.

At Los Pellines, we have rigorous internal procedures and protocols to address emergency situations such as earthquakes, fires, and volcanic eruptions. These protocols include specific measures to mitigate the risks associated with the activities we perform.

Additionally, we maintain close coordination with the competent authorities to articulate an evacuation plan defined by SERNAPRED in case of a volcanic emergency. In the case of volcanic events, it’s important to highlight that orange alerts can extend for days, weeks, or even months. However, the authorities will notify us in advance if it becomes necessary to leave the area, as long as we are within the exclusion zone. Currently, we are located 23.5 km away from the defined exclusion zone, which is 10 km.

At Los Pellines, the safety of our visitors is our highest priority. We strive to anticipate any possible event that may affect the children’s experience and take all necessary measures to ensure their well-being at all times.

At Los Pellines, we have a team of guides responsible for accompanying and supervising the children during their stay. One of the guides, in collaboration with the teacher, is in charge of administering medications to the children who need them according to the provided instructions.

To facilitate our work and ensure proper care for your child, it’s important that you provide detailed information on the medical form about the medications your child takes, including doses and schedules. This allows us to offer personalized care and ensure that each child’s medical instructions are followed.

Our goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, including the proper management of their medical treatments during their stay at Los Pellines.

  • The medical treatment must be clearly indicated on the participant’s Medical Information Form. This information is provided by the parents or guardians before the trip.
  • Medications must be handed to the accompanying adult (Facilitator or guide) in a sealed transparent bag, with the participant’s name clearly visible on the outside. This ensures the safety and accurate identification of the medications.
  • It is recommended that all group medications be organized in a transparent box. This facilitates the management and access to medications during the stay at Los Pellines.
  • Medication administration is a joint effort between the accompanying adults and the guide in charge of the group. This collaboration ensures proper control and correct distribution of medications as indicated in each participant’s treatment.
  • It is important to note that the Los Pellines team provides support and supervision in the administration of medications, but the final responsibility lies with the designated accompanying adult.

By following these procedures, we ensure that medications are administered safely and effectively, ensuring compliance with each participant’s medical treatment during their stay at Los Pellines.

At Los Pellines, we understand the importance of keeping parents informed about their children’s situation on a daily basis. However, it’s important to note that we do not have cell phone signal at our facilities, which complicates direct communications. Despite this, we have established two valid channels to keep you informed:

  • Communication through our WhatsApp group for each Camp, where we will send a daily report at 8 PM every day. Also when participants arrive and when they leave until they meet their Parents.
  • Posting on our website: We have a news section on our website. Here, we will publish a brief news note accompanied by a maximum of three group photos daily. This publication will provide details about the activities carried out during the day and the general state of the group. However, it must be considered that our Internet access is based on satellite WiFi, and although we will do everything possible to keep it stable, there may be moments when the connection is limited.

At Los Pellines, our main focus is to be on the ground with the children, providing them with a safe and enriching experience. This means that we dedicate most of our time to their care and attention. Despite communication limitations, we commit to responding to emails and WhatsApp messages as quickly as possible, bearing in mind that the priority is the care and well-being of the children.

Our goal is to maintain clear and effective communication with parents, to provide them with peace of mind and confidence that their children are in good hands during their stay at Los Pellines.

The Guides have certified first aid courses to provide a first response, we have a nursing station with everything needed for this. If a problem arises such as traumas or discomforts, the first response will be given before evacuating the child to Clínica Chillán, accompanied by a Facilitator, we also immediately call their guardian to keep them informed. Parents will always be the first to know if an accident occurs or if their child is unwell.

At Los Pellines, we have established a protocol that assigns the presence of at least two adults in each room where children sleep. These adults can be two guides or a guide and a teacher. This measure is implemented to provide accompaniment to the children during the night, ensuring that someone is always available in case they need something or an emergency arises.

The presence of adults in the rooms ensures that children feel safe and supported during their stay at Los Pellines. Additionally, it allows us to timely address any eventuality that may arise during rest hours, ensuring the well-being and peace of mind of the participants.

At Los Pellines, we understand the particular concerns and needs of each child. If your child is afraid of the dark, they can bring a battery-powered lamp to feel more comfortable during the night. Make sure to include this information in the medical form, in the observations section, so the team is aware and can provide the necessary support.

Regarding sleeping in bunk beds, our bunk beds are equipped with rails to ensure the safety of the participants. However, we understand that each child has different needs and concerns. If your child does not feel comfortable sleeping on the top bunk due to fear of falling, you can include this request in the medical form, and we will do everything possible to accommodate their lodging so they can sleep on the lower bunk.

Additionally, at Los Pellines, we keep lights on in the hallways during the night so that children can safely go to the bathroom. It is also advisable for your child to have a headlamp for the trip, as it can be useful in various situations.

Our goal is to ensure that each child feels safe and comfortable during their stay at Los Pellines, so we will take into account specific requests and provide the necessary support to guarantee a positive experience for everyone.

PAYMENTS AND REFUNDS

Our cancellation and refund policies are stipulated in our commercial policies.

The refund deadlines are as follows:

  • If the notice of non-participation is given 15 days before the trip, 100% of the balance is refunded.
  • If the notice of non-participation is given 10 days before the trip, 75% of the balance is refunded.
  • If the notice of non-participation is given 5 days before the trip, 50% of the balance is refunded.
  • If the notice of non-participation is given between 0 and 4 days before the trip, 25% of the balance is refunded.

These deadlines are established because, in the last 10 days before the trip, staff has already been hired, and the necessary supplies have been purchased. In this way, we seek to take care of our relationship with customers and our team, as the cost calculation is based on the number of participants. Each group requires logistical, operational work, and hiring of staff.

It is important to keep these policies in mind when making a reservation and consider the established deadlines to receive the corresponding refund.

If you have questions, please review the Commercial Policies Document sent.

TRANSPORT

The Summer Camp includes transportation from the meeting points in Concepción and Chillán. If the participant is from other cities, they must make their way to these meeting points.

This can be done by taking them directly to the meeting points or coordinating in advance with Los Pellines for the early purchase of train tickets until December 15. Train tickets from Santiago are paid separately.

If you have questions, please review the Commercial Policies Document sent.

From Concepción, children travel to the Chillán Train Station to meet up with children from Santiago and Chillán, accompanied by two Facilitators.

From Santiago, children are accompanied by a Facilitator, to meet up with the other children at the Chillán Train Station, and then they all travel together in a minibus to Los Pellines.

ACCESS AND COMMUNICATION

We are 56 km away from the city of Chillán. By vehicle, it’s about a 1.5-hour drive at a moderate speed. Los Pellines is located at km 38 on the road to the Chillán hot springs. From there, it’s 16 km to our center. The dirt road should be traveled with caution due to vehicle traffic and tight curves.

Yes, you can send your child with their cell phone, however, it’s important to note that there is no cell phone signal at Los Pellines and children do not have access to Wi-Fi. Upon arrival, we will ask them to store their phones in our time suitcase or Chronos for the duration of the trip, for the following reasons:

  • We encourage participants to fully connect with the experience, themselves, their peers, and nature, and mobile devices can be distractions from this connection.
  • Los Pellines is not responsible for the loss or damage of cell phones that have not been handed over to Chronos.
  • Los Pellines provides photos at the end of each experience, so participants don’t have to worry about taking them themselves.

At the end of the experience, Los Pellines will provide photos so that participants do not have to worry about taking them themselves.

At Los Pellines, we do not have cell phone signal, which prevents children from directly communicating with their parents. However, we have established two valid channels to keep parents informed about their children:

  • The teacher or accompanying adult will have the possibility to make a daily call to provide details of the group to a course delegate, who will then be responsible for communicating the information to the rest of the parents.
  • We also offer a means of communication through our website, in the news section. There, we will post a brief news item daily, accompanied by a maximum of three group photos, to report on the activities carried out and the status of the group.

At Los Pellines, we have internet access through Satellite Wi-Fi. However, the signal may not always be stable, as we spend most of our time outdoors with the children. Despite this, we commit to responding to emails and WhatsApp messages as soon as possible.

In the event of an emergency and families need to withdraw their child, we ask them to always channel the information through the school. In emergency situations, the school will know how to communicate with us to take appropriate measures.

FACILITIES

At Los Pellines, we have separate bathrooms for ladies and gentlemen, following a locker room style. Within these bathrooms, each one is equipped with individual showers, providing privacy for our participants during their grooming. Additionally, if a participant requires an individual bathroom with a shower, we also have suitable facilities to meet that need.

It’s important to highlight that showers at Los Pellines are taken in small groups and during the day, with the aim of avoiding sudden changes in temperature and providing a more comfortable and safe experience for everyone.

At Los Pellines, as a mountain shelter, we focus on providing a warm and cozy environment for our participants. Our cabins are equipped with fireplaces in the rooms and common areas, offering an additional source of heat. Additionally, we have a radiator system that heats all our facilities.

Regarding bedding, each participant must bring their sleeping bag, which is suitable for retaining heat during the nights. However, if you feel that you need more warmth, you are welcome to bring an additional blanket for extra comfort.

It’s important to mention that in the mornings, we light the fireplaces to quickly warm up the spaces and ensure that everyone feels comfortable.

At Los Pellines, we strive to provide a warm and comfortable environment, so that our participants can fully enjoy their experience.

At Los Pellines, we have rooms with various capacities, allowing us to arrange the room distribution according to the number of participants of each gender in each group, thus ensuring the comfort and privacy of everyone.

Our rooms are designed to provide a comfortable and suitable space for rest after the day’s activities. Each room has the necessary bunk beds to accommodate participants comfortably and safely.

At Los Pellines, we strive to offer a welcoming and accommodating environment tailored to the needs of our participants, ensuring a pleasant stay during their experience with us.

At Los Pellines, we have the capacity to accommodate more than one group at a time, thanks to the existence of two autonomous centers that operate simultaneously. Each center has exclusive facilities and equipment, allowing us to offer personalized attention and ensure the safety and privacy of each experience.

Our two centers are located on an extensive estate of 240 hectares, enabling us to separate the groups so that they do not meet or interact with each other. This ensures that each group enjoys a unique and exclusive experience, tailored to their specific needs and objectives.

At Los Pellines, we are committed to providing quality and personalized service, ensuring that each group has an enriching and memorable experience in our natural setting.

THE PELLINES EXPERIENCE

At Los Pellines, we actively promote teamwork and collaboration among participants. Various group activities that foster interaction and camaraderie are carried out during the trip. Additionally, spaces for reflection and dialogue are provided so that children can express their opinions, learn to listen to others, and resolve conflicts constructively.

Our team of professionals is trained to guide and support participants in strengthening their relationships with their peers. They are encouraged to respect and value individual differences, work as a team, and build lasting friendships.

Furthermore, living together during the trip allows children to share meaningful experiences and live moments in a stimulating natural environment. This creates an ideal atmosphere for developing empathy, solidarity, and camaraderie.

The trip to Los Pellines offers a unique opportunity for your child to strengthen their relationships with their peers, learn to work as a team, develop social and emotional skills, and cultivate positive ties with their student community.

At Los Pellines, we respect each child’s autonomy and decisions. If a child refuses to participate in an activity, we do not force them in any way. While we encourage participation, we understand that each child has their own preferences and limits.

Our team of facilitators is trained to provide support and individualized attention to those children who require more attention or assistance in performing a task. In aquatic activities, we provide life jackets and continuous supervision to ensure the safety of all children, especially those who cannot swim or feel insecure.

Our goal is to create an environment of trust and respect, where children feel comfortable and can enjoy their experience at Los Pellines according to their own decisions and capabilities.

Of course, at Los Pellines, we love to celebrate our participants’ birthdays. When we have birthdays during the trip, we sing “Happy Birthday” several times a day to celebrate. It would be great if you could send a “mil hojas” cake or “cuchufli” instead of junk food, along with a candle so we can make the celebration even more special. During the celebration, we all sing together and share the cake among the classmates.

Additionally, we can arrange a video call with the family at a scheduled time. The accompanying teachers will be happy to help with this coordination so your child can feel even more loved and celebrated on their special day.

We like to create memorable and special moments for each of our participants, and your child’s birthday will be an opportunity to do so. We are committed to making their experience at Los Pellines unforgettable and full of joy.

At Los Pellines, our main goal is to accompany meaningful learning experiences based on the Relational Model, which involves adapting to the interests, rhythms, and needs of each child. We understand that your child has Asperger’s syndrome and may experience frustration crises on certain occasions. We want to assure you that we have experience working with children who have this diagnosis.

We commit to aligning our team of facilitators to anticipate your child’s needs, especially in activities that may be more challenging for them. We will work on providing clear instructions and concrete speeches to facilitate their participation. We will also work closely with the Program Director and their “Guide godparent” to anticipate situations that may cause frustration and ensure that the trip is attractive and beneficial both individually and collectively, strengthening the relationships among participants.

Our focus is on respecting and accompanying each child, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy and learn meaningfully.

Los Pellines does not take responsibility for valuable items. Children can hand in phones, money to be kept under the custody of teachers or accompanying adults, according to our procedures. Children must take care of their clothing, glasses, flashlights, water bottles.

It is recommended that personal items and equipment come properly labeled, and children should take care to bring them back home. Facilitators cannot keep children’s items, glasses, flashlights, clothing during the experience; it is the responsibility of the children. Our facilitators can help, but they are not responsible for the loss or damage of valuable objects.

At the end of each experience, a review of all spaces and all lost items is conducted. These are displayed to all participants for recognition; what is not recognized is photographed and then deposited in a bag that goes back to school in charge of the accompanying adults.

If there are any questions we haven’t answered, please do not hesitate to contact us.
